Project Overview

Design and implementation of a safe and cost-effective excavation support system for a basement and multi-storey building.

Challenge

The site, located in the GV02 zone of the New Administrative Capital, required deep excavation for basements. Variable soil layers (fill, silty Sand, sandy clay) and nearby sensitive structures meant that a reliable shoring system was critical to ensure stability, safety, and compliance with Egyptian Code 202/2001.

Our Approach

Our team designed a tailored shoring system using soldier piles with timber lagging and ground anchors, supported by advanced PLAXIS modelling to confirm stability and safety. The solution balanced structural performance with construction practicality, ensuring safe excavation, controlled displacements, and compliance with Egyptian standards, while also optimising material use and project costs.

Services Delivered

  • Geotechnical site investigation (5 boreholes, lab testing)
  • Numerical analysis & FEM modelling (PLAXIS 2D)
  • Shoring system design (Berlin Wall with soldier piles, timber lagging, anchors)
  • Construction methodology & safety measures
